In the late 1930s Åke Danielson settle down by the marsh west of Ryd in Southern Sweden and started digging peat. There were very little money to be earned and in the 1940s he turned to scrap cars.
Åke Danielsons scrap yard was place right by the old road between Ryd and Hæssleholm, two small towns but in the 1960s there was a new highway build and there were no longer customers coming to Åke Danielson to get rid of their cars.
The old cars were standing by the roadside and slowly nature took over....
The state wanted it to be cleaned up but there were a lot of protest from museums and local people who wanted to keep this special place and in 2001 the state agreed to leave Åke Danielsons scrap yard to nature until 2050.
