Home - Photos - Europe - DIY Skatepark, Kamari, Santorini, Greece
As we passed the abandon park with the bus I noticed something in between the trees that could be a skateboard ramp. The next day I went back to the park on foot with my camera. Someone had build a miniramp and a concrete halfpipe. A true Do It Yourself project.
I have seen rougher concrete halfpipes but I can't remember when. The miniramp was build from pallets and plywood. Screws were sticking out in too many places. It was a skectchy ramp but it was a ramp. While walking around shooting photos I was approached by an older dude. My Greek was better than his English and I only know very few words. With some pointing and more pointing I got to the conclusion he did not skate and he didn't not build any of this. He disappeared into the abandonded park again after trailing me for a few minutes.
Unfortunately I did not bring my skateboard on this trip and if I ever return to Kamari, Santorini in Greece I might not bring it again. The ramps were too sketchy and I'm too old for skectchy ramps.
Where there is a will there is a way. I have the deepest respect for those who build this. Skate and destroy.
